How to change up your self-care routine.

Have you been less motivated because of your self-care routine? Are you still doing the same boring regimen and need new ideas? I have you covered.

Recently, I went to the doctor for a wellness check, and the blood test results were horrible. I am in an unhealthy zone, and my body is shutting down. I fell deeper into depression and went back on medication.

So far, it’s been a journey, and I wanted to share my tips with you and help you on your wellness journey.

Switch your self-care routine around.

I became less consistent and lost desire after I discovered I was performing the same task every day.

If you are comfortable with the same self-care routine, that is okay, but you will become bored in the long run.

Try adding something else you haven’t tried, or try something you always had on your bucket list.

Listen to motivational videos after waking up.

I used to go on social media when my alarm goes off at 5 a.m. and begin scrolling until I lost track of time.

Instead of going on social media, I go to YouTube and search for uplifting videos to watch before I start my day.

Here are a few videos you want to add to your routine:

Focus your mind – Motivational Speech ft. Jordan Peterson
True Beast Mentality – Best Motivational Video Speeches Compilation
Wake up & work hard at it – New Motivational Video

Find social media communities in your area.

Join a community on Facebook, Clubhouse, or Meet Up to connect with new people. If you’re not sure what communities to try, think about the hobbies you’re into.

Here are some Facebook groups to try:

Fine Fit Fitness

Positive Spiritual Friendships

The Yoga Room

Find a podcast to enjoy.

Another method to improve your self-care routine is to listen to podcasts. Podcasts are available in a variety of formats, including interviews, instructional, narrative, self-help, etc.

By listening to podcasts, you can gain new knowledge. And it’s also free.

Podcasts are available on many platforms.

Here are a few well-known podcasts that I currently listen to:

Balanced Black Girl Podcast

Therapy for Black Girls

The Great Girlfriend Show

Discovery of new music.

Music is my therapy. Spotify is my go-to music app and I have a ton of playlists from LoFi beats to oldies, to soul, etc.

I always listen to LoFi beats while writing. It’s a form of downtempo music with a combination of hip-hop and chill-out music. And LoFi beats are great for people with ADHD.

Watch your favorite TV Shows.

Ever since the pandemic happened, I started watching my favorite tv series.

But, while motherhood was taking over my life, I watched a show I’d never seen before. Instead of binge-watching the series, I watch it every night after laying my kids down to sleep.

Join a book club.

I recently joined an app called Fable, where you can join any genre of books. You can join a conversation about a chapter, a character, or any other topic that pops into your head.

I love reading in the early morning before my family wakes up. If you’re not into reading, you can try listening to audiobooks.

Audiobooks are like podcasts, but it’s someone reading the novel to you.

Conclusion

It’s fantastic if you already incorporate these self-care practices. To maintain consistency, start varying your regimen. If you want to add a new regimen, look for ideas on Pinterest or Google.

If you can’t practice self-care every day, choose a day when you’re less busy or wake up a little early.

I hope this article was helpful to anyone who needs support.

What is your self-care regimen, and how many times a week do you practice?
